Did you know that you are part of a FAMILY!  Yes, no matter how weird, dumb, or annoying your family can be, you are part of it.  Yes, you are probably annoying at some point.  When I was a teenager I always wanted to be like someone else.  My friends always had the “better” family.  My friend’s family was less annoying, less embarrassing, and all that good stuff.  I soon learned that my friend’s family had “issues” too.  In fact, we all do!  God put me into my family for a reason, and no it isn’t  just annoy your little sister.  IT’S MUCH BIGGER than THAT.  God has placed you in your family… so find the good in the midst of the messiness.  Come tomorrow night and we will discover together some stories Jesus told about being part of a family.

Also – better brush up on the facts about your brother or sister… you just might need them on Wednesday.

Series Overview:

You’ve seen their shiny, happy faces staring at you from picture frames, magazine ads and commercials. They are the perfect family. Every tooth sparkles. Every face beams with joy. And they seem to have everything you don’t. But the reality is, well they aren’t real. In fact it’s an illusion. There’s no such thing as a picture perfect family. Families are made up of imperfect people—people like you and me. So how do we live and interact with the family God has placed us in? How do we find a way to be a part of it, instead of just surviving and living for the day when we move on? Because no family is perfect. And no person is either.

We will be leaving this Saturday morning for our High School Fall Retreat. We are joining Lakewood Baptist at Camp McCall in Sunset, SC. Please be praying for all students and leaders as we learn what it looks like to “Leap before You Look.” Faith without sight is a tough concept to grasp and apply to our daily lives.

John 20:29, Jesus tells Thomas, “…blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”

2 Corinthians 5:7 states, “We live by faith, not by sight.”

Here are five things to pray for our students as God works through many hearts this weeekend.

1. Growth in Grace- 2 Peter 3:18

2. Love for God’s Word- Psalm 19:10

3.Faith- Luke 17:5-6, Hebrews 11:1-40

4.Prayfulness- Ephesians 6:18

5.Faithfulness- Proverbs 3:3

Emma’s Heart

August 24, 2011 by hbyers · View Comments

There is a difference between seeing and doing; knowledge and denial; hope and indifference. Over the summer my heart was molded into a tool to find the difference. Its always been easy to say things, but doing them? Thats a whole different story. Im tired of looking at statistics and seeing people as a percent sign rather than a story to be told. So once I realized I was done watching bad things happen and standing by as they did, it was time for the hard part; now what? Something about hearing Louie Giglio talking about atlanta being the number two area in the world as a sex trafficking site made my heart break in an unexplainable way. How could this be happening? How come there isn’t anyone stopping this? It made me angry. Thats when I knew it was what God wanted me to put an end to. Deciding to help the fight against human trafficking was easy. The hard part was finding an organization to help me put my passion into actions. After praying for an opportunity for open windows, I heard that the Payton’s were going on a mission trip with an organization called Rahab’s Rope. After learning a little bit more about these girls, I decided that I wanted to throw a clothes drive for them. The clothes drive was way more successful than I could have ever imagined and my heart still feels warm when I think of all the bags that were lined up and ready to be taken over to India as a token of love for these girls. The Payton’s have more than enough clothing items to be given out as reminders of hope. I can’t thank you enough. Although I have loved the chance getting to work with Rahab’s Rope, I really feel as if my heart is being drawn back to Atlanta. I hope to get the chance to work with an organization that is right here in the city called Street Grace. Hopefully more opportunities will be opened to me as I start this journey with them and get a closer look at what is going on in our own backyard.
